Furnace and Hot Water Heater TPV Questions

Relatively new homeowner here icon_confused.gif My Trane condensing furnace is leaking water where the pvc flue meets the furnace. I disconnected the flue and re-positioned the o-ring gasket, but it still leaks. What’s my next step? Silicone or other type of sealant material? Bigger O-ring?

Regarding the water heater T&P Valve, it also drips water at the rate of about 1 coffee can per 10 days or so. Is this normal? Also, when I flip the TPV lever manually no water comes out at all. Is the valve defective? I would expect water to come out at a high rate when testing the valve.

Thanks.

Dave it would not hurt a thing to try a little sealant on the o-ring for the furnace flue but if the o-ring was brittle and dry I would recommend replacement.

The T&P valve for the hot water heater should not drip water and when the lever is lifted water should discharge at a high rate the same as opening a faucet. T&P valves are sold at Lowes and are inexpensive.

Don’t argue with an idiot someone watching may not be able to tell the difference.
