Furnace and water heater in a bedroom closet

Saw your post because I wanted see what others were saying about this. Spoke with Northwest Energy guy to make sure the wording right. Direct vent okay but nothing else. They would red flag it…

Good morning
I actually came across this condition last week in a basement suite. The doors were louvered and I explained that its not an ideal setup. They need to provide an exterior vent for fresh air to the room.
The main issue however was that they didnt have a carbon monoxide detector in the room.

Welcome to our forum, Jeff!..Enjoy!

This is a re-occurant misconception. Bedrooms do not now and never have required a closet.

I suppose it depends where you live.

I grew up with wardrobes in our bedrooms, early on.

In the early 20th century none of the surviving row homes in downtown Baltimore had closets. I have some pictures (somewhere) of closets with outlets in them. The outlets were added first as the home was electrified (never enough outlets). and then sometime later they framed a corner of the room as a closet (which just happened to be the same corner as the outlet - LOL). “Back in the day” as you pointed out wardrobes were the furniture you hung your clothes in.

I still hear Realtors speak the bedroom closet myth. I don’t know where that got started.
