GFCI Outlets

True, the lathe is a bit more…industrial, still makes me pause though.

I find it surprising that they have a lath in Industry running on 120 volts .

Most automotive equipment is 120v, as it needs to be mobile and 240v isn’t readily available in most shops other than for permanently installed equipment. Most shops run 120v welders now for the same reason.

I would have that lathe checked it could be where the fault is .
GFCI are for protection just like goggles are when grinding .

Just possibly this would be correct. The article was changed to include the italicized text. Prior to that the code read:

From the 2008 NEC

size=2 Laundry, utility, and wet bar sinks — where the receptacles
are installed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the outside
edge of the sink

From the 2011 NEC 210.8

size=2 Sinks — located in areas other than kitchens where
receptacles are installed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the outside
edge of the sink

If you are saying the receptacle is in a bathroom it would need to meet this definition under the 2008.

**Bathroom. **An area including a basin with one or more of
the following: a toilet, a tub, or a shower

Under the 2011 it now reads:

**Bathroom. **An area including a basin with one or more of
the following: a toilet, a urinal, a tub, a shower, a bidet, or
similar plumbing fixtures.

What edition of the code was enforce when the permit was pulled? It makes a difference.

Joseph, I agree with you so don’t get your panties in a wad!

You have good reason for what you did in “your house”.

But what are we to do out here in the real world where they make up their own rules?

Just asking for conversation.
I could really care less.
I have worked through this scenario many years ago.
