Russell,
You could try taking a night course at your local votech if they are any in your immediate area. Hands on experience is always much better and my preferred method of education. I am one of those handicapped persons that has a very difficult time learning from books and schools.

Russell,
Contact Carson, Dunlop & Associates at www.carsondunlop.com or call them at 1-800-268-7070 (I think it will work from the US). I did my trianing through them and their course books are excellent. There is a Heating/Air Conditioning Book (AC's & Heat Pumps) and two Heating Books.
Good luck.

Do you know if Carson Dunlop sells the reference texts individually or do you have to purchase the entire course? All I saw for sale at their website was the Home Reference Manual. Thanks.

Each individual module can be purchased at Carson Dunlop.
The cost is $245 per module for just the book, $295 for book and video or CD Rom and $345 for book, video or CD Rom and tutoring. All costs quoted in Canadian, I am not sure if the prices in the U.S. are the same.

Yellow Jacket makes an excellent truck/tool box manual. It’s filled with enough general information to help anyone that wants to learn about heating and air conditioning. It cost about $10.00 to $12.00 at most big book dealers.

The book is called, The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Tool Box Manual. It’s by David Tenenbuam and a part of Arco’s on the job reference series. I owned the book a couple of years ago. I loaned it out and never got it back.
I could have sworn it was Yellow Jacket.Maybe becuase it has a picture of Yellow Jacket refrigeration guages on the cover. And the book is Yellow.Sorry, next time I suggest a book I will include the author and title.
It is a great book just the same.I saw 17 on Amazon for $7.77 . Maybe I will buy it for myself again, since I can not remember who I loaned it to.
