Joe,

We need you to distill it and codify the problem.

Then provide additional info attuned to the HI.

Safety for the HI should be A#1.

Speak on that!

Regards,

Bill

Joe,

I like you and support what you are trying to do, but who in the hell are you to decide who is qualified or not? The blanket statement you made here is nothing short of outrageous.

As a trainer for this organization, you should be careful how you phrase things, and lumping inspector into a category. This is especially true when you make a statement, then charge substantial fees for inspectors to come to the seminar you are conducting.

It's a self-serving statement, and I believe you owe a whole lot of inspectors an apology.

Joe, last time we spoke your fees were what made it “impossible” to accomodate…have you reconsidered your fees?

I am sure many inspector would benefit from a "safety course" in electrical..so let me know if you have a revised "less expensive" pricing schedule.

If not, maybe the Nick could finance you...I knw we cant.

JEEZZZ this place is amazing. To many ego’s in one place. I have to admit I’m starting to get great concerns over this organizations ability to continue into the future for the long haul. Why is it that every time I look at this BB that some person is getting his feelings hurt or is trying to sell me something? I for one am tired of all the self serving people that use this BB to sell me things at a “NACHI discount”, only to find out it’s really not much of a discount at all. Dave Bush not included in this statement. Anyway this BB may be the death of NACHI if things continue the way there are going.

NACHI MAB!

I have no idea what Mr. Tedesco is charging NACHI for his seminars ,but I do know how much was paid for the NTT course I attended. $ 995.00 per person + hotel room 2 days $70 a day + meals + travel+ rental car for a total of around $1400.00 per person!!

This was in 1997

What is Joes price ?

I realize the average HI does not really need all the info provided in a 2 day seminar, as a lot of it deals with high voltage industrial situations, but I think anyone that deals with any electrical system including a visual inspection of panels, disconnects etc. should be made aware of the potential hazards relating to electrical systems and how to adequately protect themselves from those hazards.

That said: SAFETY is PRICELESS

Questions From the field

I make a typical Home Inspection of the electrical system. Please explain

these items and add others I should be aware of.

    Double taps

    Correct wire sizes.

    Reading breaker amps.

    Missing knockouts.

    Panel condition.

    Copper or Aluminum Feeder Type.

    Main disconnect present.

May need better explanations

    Understanding Sub-Panels.

    Bus bars, grounds, and neutrals.

    Isolated this or that.

    Bonding straps.

System grounding in addition to a ground rod.

Safety Items:

Safety when opening panels.

(Are electrician's gloves with liner and rubber shoes enough?)

What about volt sniffer, what's a wiggie?

I never have or will put my hands near the inside of a box.

And lastly I am concerned about stepping on a live wire in an attic and or wet crawls with a live wire.

I’ll add a little

Fuse ratings for A/C units etc.

Proper clearance of wiring at access hatches, above driveways, decks, roofs, pools, walkways etc.

Proper clearance of insulation around ceiling fixtures ie. recess cans, low voltage transformers for lighting etc.

Proper securing of wires, conduit, boxes, and fittings.

Size of service.

Type of wiring ie. NM, BX, K&T etc.

GFCI where required depending on the year the home or addition was built.

Bonding of metallic water pipes.

Proper wiring of accesible recepts and switches.

Splices at weather head (is there an insulating cover) is it properly attached? proper drip loop?

I don’t fear electricity. I respect it.

Honestly, safety refreshers are good. However, I myself would just like to see information on how electricity works from basic thru advanced.
That's primarily why I come to this board. Everything I read is a learning experience in one aspect or another.

Deflated ego threads, while giving me an education on the type of personality someone is, is not the type of education I'm really looking for.

Do you understand ohms law? If so then you have the "basics" of how it works. At least thats what they told me in school

Maybe I should revise my statement to say “how electrical systems work”. (wiring, size, type, breakers, fuses, feeders, panelboards, subpanels, loads, etc.)
