heatpump vs electric furnace

When you are inside the house looking at the heating unit, how do you tell the difference between a electric heat pump/air handler and a electric furnace? Other than the thermostats and exterior units, what items do you look for while looking at the unit in the closet or attic to tell them apart?

There is no difference with perhaps the CFM of the blower which your not going to notice as a HI. The indoor A-coil will most likely be physically larger in size which you most likely will not notice.

An electric furnace is just that a electrical furnace

Is there a particular reason you ask this question

12 year member doesn’t know? Breaker size on the unit at the main panel is large. Most always on an electric furnace, there are two breakers on the side of the unit. Your area may vary due to how severe your winters are.

Gary , good reminder about the breakers.

There will be no Freon gas lines on the only electric furnace and a large size cable for those electric elements.

thanks Marcel

You can have refrigerant lines on a electrical furnace especially in Arizona maybe not in Canada where cooling is not so necessary:shock:

Sorry Charlie you are wrong about my part of Canada southern Ontario
.
We have air or heat pumps in most homes here.

example we have had one or the other in all our various homes since 1970 .

Sorry Roy I did not specifically name your part of Canada. It was just a general comment

You forgot the majic word only.
*There will be **no Freon gas lines *on the only electric furnace and a large size cable for those electric elements.

But the OP was asking about a HP:p

Même chose!

Mark are you talking about the all in one units we often see like 'SkyMark" ?
They have the compressor built in and flue as a package unit.

It is confusing at times for me as well because heat pumps are rare here.

99% are HVAC split system or simply hydronic based .

**That was my original post;-)
