Help identifying foundation block

Can anyone help identify this type of foundation? It looks like clay tile with the reinforcement ribs laid horizontally. The house is over 100 years old and this is under the original part.

Thank you, Jon

Jon,

You guessed right. These were quick common in the late 40’s and into early 60’s. Clay tile were used before concrete block were available in some areas. I carried many of these for my dad who was a brick and tile mason. I have seen these in areas were there was a brick plant.

However, keep in mind that the way they are laid is NOT ideal. The hollow cores should run vertical not horizontal. The blocks can crush easier when installed in this way. :frowning:
