Received this reply from TREC today:
Mr. Dacey,
Yes, we would accept real estate inspector continuing education from NACHI
as they are approved by the IRS and other states to offer continuing
education.

Nick,
I'd love to go as I have been thinking about getting ICC certified for some time. Unfortunately, TX is a long way from PA and the fees (on top of the air fare and hotel) would be out of my league. I'll wait for an East Coast session, I guess!

Joseph,
Check their web site they have these sessions all over - maybe not this time of year. They also have a good home study with proctored exams. I am studying their certified mechanical inspector course.

Thanks, Erol.
This sounded like a pretty comprehensive training session as opposed to alot of the single topic seminars, but I guess I have to take what I can get...

Is there a home study course available? I have seen the exam prep courses and the info on the certification exam but have yet been able to find an actual online course. If you know of one, I’d be much obliged.

You need to order the ICC 2000 edition (check on the version). Then you sign up online (not free). You will be given instruction on what to study, then there about 4 open book quizzes. When your done, study some more for a proctored exam. There is a link on this site that will answer all your questions.

A group of us are working on the IRC 1 and 2 family dwelling. There are many helpful guides available from ICC. I think this is something that you could do on your own with help from other inspectors working on it. If you would like to join our forum let me know.

Nick,
I was going to try to announce the seminar at our local HI org. meeting next week. Should be a pretty full meeting because dues need to be paid and we're having our elections. I'll print out the page with the course description and pass it out.
