Imsul insulation?

Found this insulation on a 100 year old house with detached 2 car garage and a studio above it. The insulation was found between the ceiling and the studio floor. I’ve tried to look it up on the web and haven’t found anything yet. Has anyone seen this before? I want to know if it “hazardous” or not, etc.

Try Kimsul Insulation. It’s balsam wool.

Yep…Seen it before.
No asbestos to the best of my knowledge.

Kimsul looks like layered creped paper and is impregnated with asphalt. It is not known to contain asbestos. It was manufactured from the early-mid 1930s through the early 1950s. It was first used in refrigerators, then car dashboards and train cars. It was also used by the US military during WWII and lined many Quonset huts assembled in cold climates.

Hope that helps.

To the best of my knowledge, I do not think Kimsul is the same as Balsam Wool or Silva Wool, Jeff but I could be mistaken.

You’ll just have to copy & paste an article from another site, and you find the answer.

I am not denying that. I searched and searched. So what?

Show me your proof Kimsul is Balsam wool. They don’t even look the same…

Did you read the article that Brian posted?
