How do you successfully inspect a hydroponic floor heating system?
Correction: Hydronic
I turn it on and then check the floors with a thermal camera. The boiler gets inspected just like any other boiler or water heater.
FYI…
Boiler in “stand by mode”. Summertime and no response from thermostat. I’m thinking the system is held off due to warm weather. Any thoughts?
Gas boiler? Is the gas on? Is it plugged in? Post some pics of the boiler.
Should be hanging in an art museum somewhere…
Do you know how long it takes to heat up the floor with water from a boiler in standby?
How do you know it is not responding?
Hi Joel.
Welcome to the forum.
It starts with the system, the boiler, itself.
Energy used to energize the equipment.
Pump/s. Plumbing manifold and piping material. Couples.
Then the radiant floors with a thermal camera.
Turn the controller/thermostat up all the way and give it about 20 minutes, the floors should feel warm to the touch. Set the controller back to where you found it.
Thanks You probably nailed it. I may have not been giving the systems enough time to respond. In the future I’ll turn on early in the inspection and give it longer time.
What type of boiler? A high efficiency boiler will have the water up to temp in 10 minutes. A conventional with a multi-hundred gallon tank is enough for you to run to Dunkin, get coffee and some donuts, read the paper and talk to your wife or girlfriend or both.
You really don’t need to do all that though…just grab the exit pipe on the boiler, if it starts warming up, go look for leaks. If you don’t hear a lot of banging or gurgling and you don’t see anything wet, there’s not a whole lot else to check. If the boiler warms at all, it’s super unlikely it won’t hit set temp so you’re just looking for leaks.
If the installers were good, there will be a flow meter on the make up supply water, few people were willing to pay for that though. If it’s there, just watch it.
Thanks for the guidance.
