Anyone know of a CLEAR/DEFINITIVE guide for the R-Value recommendations here in NY? I’ve been asked repeatedly for info, or a chart on this, but many of the on-line guides are VERY tough to calculate for the average homeowner/buyer. Thanks

Thanks Gerry, I’m actually looking for something to give consumers showing thickness of insulation in ceilings, etc. I have told people about the requirements, but i think they’d like to keep a copy of a chart or something for future reference, Probably because it was such a terrible winter here this year. I guess that’s what $300-$400 heating bills will do to ya An old home i looked at last year had a $450 bill one month just for electric (his furnace was 25 yrs old, and electric, and nothing but sundays comics ground up in the attic)

Hi Matt,
I am not aware of any "userfreindly" chart that is available that would show the R value figure for your area based on insulation type. Having said that it would not be difficult for you to put something together as a chart in MS Exel once you had convertedthe R values into inch thicknesses for each type of material that is commonly used in your area.
