Interior door width?

I searched IRC 2000 but could not find anything on minimum door width for interior doors. However, I did find local code says… 28" WC door and 30" sleeping room. Also, could not find minimum door width requirements for garage door just “1 3/8"min. thickness; 20 minute rating”.

Can anyone tell me if IRC2000 discusses this matter?

I don’t see where the IRC addresses interior doors, only exterior. UBC 1003.3.1.3 requires 32 inches clear space for “an exit door.”

Exterior doors are addressed by both IRC 311.4.2 and UBC 1005.3.2.1 = 36" wide x 6'-8" high, side hinged.

I thought I was missing something. I don’t have the UBC but my city has their codes on line which pretty much follows IRC. What started this is that I read a question on a practice exam that called out a 28" garage door as in need of repair and that was a new one on me. So I went searching and could not find how that door width was supported by code.

Appreciate the input.

Wouldn't a garage door be considered an exterior door?

With regards to emergency egress, no.

IRC 311.4.1 and UBC 1005.3.2.3 require a door with direct access to the exterior and specify - not through a garage.

The garage door (pedestrian door) is not a door from the dwelling unit.

The dwelling unit and the garage are different and are considered separately. When you go to the garage, you are leaving the dwelling unit.

That is why garages are referred to as "attached" or "detached", they are not "part of" the dwelling.

I know I'm fishing now, but I was just trying to figure Roberts question out here. If the test question assumes that any door leaving the living space, for whatever reason, is exterior, then it might be looking for a 36" door. Robert, we didn't see the original question, so could it have been referring to a solid core vs hollow core issue? And the size was just to throw you off?
