A simple check if iron bacteria is present, check inside the WC tank. If you have brown stains then it is most likely iron. If it is slippery and slimy it is most likely iron bacteria. If the deposit is gritty it is just iron.

45 years ago we had a dug well and it Had this problem .
We would shock the Well and had too do it about once a month .
It is a nuisance but we where able to live with it .
I have not run into it since .
I drive by the old place and wonder how the people who live there are handling it .

This is an old string and I was asked if I had any more info.
I am sure many newer Inspectors might appreciate this string too.
