That’s good. It was your choice, not the car manufacturers’.
Is your driving data being shared by the manufacturers unknowingly?
So, you’re okay with insurance companies entering your house whenever they want to see how you live, then, too?
Kinda like inspectors feeding data to Porch or Am Fam.
Exactly.
It’s all about privacy, or the lack thereof.
Is your driving data being shared by the manufacturers unknowingly?
Yes and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
That’s right up there with, “Let the government monitor everything you do. If you don’t have anything to hide, why do you care?”
What!!?
Amazingly, people are dismissive of being monitored, tracked, and evaluated by corporations (or the government) without their consent.
That is slimy business practice. No different than a home inspector’s reporting software collecting data to sell.
That’s why I don’t use a porch product that supplies them with any info. My report software is offline and I don’t use my mobile phone for my software. I don’t pay a monthly fee to use it. I use HIP but got it before a monthly subscription was needed. And I don’t use their office software. I use it offline only. My clients info is safe with me. But with all the technology out there today, nothing is really private. We can be tracked no matter what we do. But I have nothing to hide, so I don’t care.

Sun on Privacy: ‘Get Over It’
At the Monday night launch of Sun Microsystems’ new Jini technology, CEO Scott McNealy calls consumer privacy a non-issue. The Federal Trade Commission has another view. By Polly Sprenger.
"Canada-based University of Waterloo is racing to remove M&M-branded smart vending machines from campus after outraged students discovered the machines were covertly collecting facial-recognition data without their consent.”
You have to opt out?? WTF GM??
I guess this is the new norm.
How To Opt Out Of GM Sharing Your Driving Data With Insurance Companies
Nothing new about this norm. So many things you do in life your privacy is invaded unless you “Opt Out”. For some things opting out can be done at the time of sign-up but I certainly would not believe or trust that is being done by the provider. Many activities require you to send them Snail Mail to opt out. By then, if it doesn’t wind up in the providers “File 13” box your private information has already been sold/passed around over and over again.
Besides Lexis Nexis the largest personal data broker in the world many people have never heard of their Brethren in the medical community called “Health Information Exchange” (HIE). I won’t go through a large description but it was intended to make your private medical records portable and accessible by any medical professional “When Needed”. This is another you have to “Opt Out” database that so many people just do not know about and completely shoots down the purpose of the securities of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act laws (HIPPA) that is suppose to protect your private health information from those that have no business seeing it.
HIE has no real control over who can access your health information. Realize I said “control” and not rules/laws. Any medical professional can sign into the system and view your medical history placed in it and there are no real checks and balances against it. You, the patient, can not sign into it to see who has been accessing your records. If you want to know you have to Snail Mail a request which is total bullshit!
Have anecdotal information from a friend who is very, very against any of these databases and spends a lot of effort not to be in them. He was caught in “The HIE Trap” with a moron Doctor who misdiagnosed him to have an issue he does not have and uses the HIE. Two very FU side effects occurred from this because the Doctor refused to correct his records after he was caught in the error.
- He has been refused medical treatment by other moron Doctors who only noted the other Moron Doctors diagnosis that he would not correct.
- Not long after the Moron Doctor made the misdiagnosis entry he started receiving advertisements and coupons from pharmaceutical companies for medications to treat the condition he did not have. So the question is how the hell did they know about it since they should not be accessing the HIE and supposedly the Moron Doctor’s office does not provide information to those type entities (as stated on their privacy policy)???
He had no idea about HIE and the wording at the Moron Doctors office was not clear at all his information would have been put in the HIE database. So many people do not know about that database and the negative effects it has! It is also an automatic join when you step into any ignorant Doctors office that uses it.
Insurance Companies are finding ways to limit their liability or “share” the cost of a loss. HO insurance Companies in CA for instance are requiring an auto water supply shut off and/or gas shut off to get HO insurance.
Same with Car insurance Companies. Speed, brake to fast GOTCHA!. More $$ please.
Since we are all required to have auto insurance, then everyone on the road ought to have it. While it’s been some years, both times I was struck by another car? Neither had insurance.
Yes, yes, I know there’s laws on the books about requirements.
The penalties are simply not severe enough.
You hit someone without insurance? Your car is immediately impounded and any residual value is applied to the debt you owe to the person you hit.
It should HURT to drive without insurance. “Undocumented, no insurance?” Immediate expulsion. You’re on the next flight to shitholeistan. Drive them to the airport and Sayonara that day.
.
Now see you’re making sense and that is not allowed these days! After all who wants to see a return to responsibility in this country?
