Inspected this house yesterday. They had done some rewiring as you can see. The red wire that they replaced the knob and tube with is solid - not stranded. It looks like they took it out of some romex. I know this is wrong, but can someone tell be what makes it wrong.

Materials need to be used as the manufacturer intended, splices outside of junction box and unprotected wires for a start.
This is the correct splicing method for K&T…
You wouldn’t get away with it up here in the great white north. If you uncover K&T during renovation it must be decommissioned and replaced.
