while ladders are a safe they are the still the number one cause of construction accident and deaths, improper use of a ladder can cause serious injury or death. always make sure ladder is clean and all parts are working properly, never have two or more people on them and never use them near power lines.

My chose was the different types of roofs and valleys hat are used . And theres so many types of material to chose from . to have the skill to inspect so types does take educating your self to perform a proper inspection for your client . good thing that I use to do roofing installation in my past .
THIS USE OF A LADDER IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NEVER BE DONE. THE TOP OF THE CHIMNEY DOES NOT NEED TO INSPECTED THAT BAD. GET A CAMERA ON A EXTENDABLE STICK TO REACH UP THERE TO LOOK AND IF YOU NEED CALL OUT A PROFESSIONAL TO FIX THE ISSUE
YOU SHOULD BE FACING THE LADDER AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON LADDER. DO NOT HANG OFF THE SIDE OF LADDER TO GET A BETTER LOOK AT A WINDOW. DO NOT HAVE TOOLS OR ANYTHING ELSE IN HAND WHILE CLIMBING LADDER. HAVE A NICE SOLID LEVEL SURFACE TO PLACE LADDER ON
According to the World Health Organization, the United States leads the world in ladder deaths. Each year, there are more than 164,000 emergency room-treated injuries and 300 deaths in the U.S. that are caused by falls from ladders.
Most ladder deaths are from falls of 10 feet or less.
Falls from ladders are the leading cause of deaths on construction sites.
Over the past decade, the number of people who have died from falls from ladders has tripled.
Falls from ladders are the leading cause of ladder-related injuries, followed by using a ladder improperly, using a faulty or defective ladder, and simple carelessness.
In the photo you will find a telescopic ladder. These ladders are very compact and easy to haul. I use these ladders frequently however some user may not like the play or bend in the ladder when fully extended, and it is very important to be sure that each level or rung is full locked into place prior to climbing.
In diagram of proper use of a ladder you will see an inspector at the eave of a home inspecting the roof. The ladder is properly past the roof line to provide greater stability as well a more comfortable dismount to the roof. However the tie tie down strap is not clearly visible, this is must as it will prevent ladder from slipping and falling causing a multitude of issues.
This is a class 3, light duty, household use rated, folding step ladder. The weight rating is 200 pounds. You should not step any higher than two feet of the top of a step ladder. Step ladders should not be used in the unopened position.
Upon the request of a roof inspection at 5280 Smith St., I did a visual inspection from the ground. I went to inspection from the roof, but noticed the runs on the ladder were damaged. Due to the damage, I was not able to use this ladder and waited for the delivery of a new ladder.
Before leaving for the first home inspection of the day, I inspected all four ladders. The extension ladders and telescope ladder were in good working condition. However, on the step ladder, the hinge on the right side was dented. I immediately red tagged the ladder.
Step ladders should always be used in the full open position, and you should never lean past past the point of your belt buckle when using the ladder. Before using any ladder it should be inspected for damage. If any damage is found the ladder should not be used.
Tie down straps should be a necessity for any home inspector using a ladder. Inspectors could find themselves in a rural area with very little traffic and no cell phone signal. If the ladder falls or is blown off of the roof, the straps could save them from an extended stay on a rooftop in less than enjoyable weather.
Shown is my ladder of choice, a multi purpose ladder that allows me to use it for a myriad of jobs. I have the ability to use it as a step ladder of varying heights, as well as a single ladder that can extend to a sufficient height to reach most normal home roofs.
Having studied numerous Gallery images of ladders and usage thereof, combined with personal observations I believe that the most misused ladder types is the step ladder, specifically the short step ladder. The main issue is the fact that they are almost invariably used as step stools, not proper ladders, which means people almost always feel completely at home standing on top of the ladder cap. This frequently overbalances the ladder, and is totally incompatible with three points of contact. I therefore recommend to use a minimum of a 6-foot step ladder, as this will prevent the need to stand above the safe points in normal home use.
The image shows the labels for a Type 3 household use metal ladder. The largest label explains what procedures should be followed for safe operation, inspection and care and storage. The next explains the type of ladder, weight rating, height, model # and the highest standing level. The last label, is the UL approval label. It designates the type of ladder it is and that caution should be used when performing work near or around electrical circuits. All labels are clearly marked and visible and should be adhered to when performing required tasks.
this is a type 1 step ladder in this picture leaning against a building i was working on and the ladder slipped sideways (sliding) down side of building and i fell hitting my head on concrete busting it open,so you must use ladders correctly.

There are safety procedures that must be followed before using any type of ladder. Steps and rungs must be free of grease, oil, paint and other potential slipping hazards. Some ladders have adjustable feet that can used in different environments. Pads at the bottom of the feet can become worn and need to be replaced. All rung locks and spreaders must be operational, as well as moving parts that freely move without resistance. Ropes that operate extension ladders must be free of wear and tear, fraying and distortion. Replacement should be immediate. Ladders that have broken steps, split or cracked side rails or corroded pulley systems should be clearly tagged as non operational. Proper maintenance and awareness when using a ladder can extend the life of the ladder as well as prevent unexpected consequences.
