Scott, are you installing a new mortise lockset or a conversion. Backsets were different back then compared to today. Pain in the arse.
There was a smaller mortise lockset in the door that was no longer functional so I am replacing it with a new larger one that required enlarging the mortise, and yes it has a 2 1/2 backset
