I just got this info from Lochinvar. Thought some of you might find it useful. I asked for the key to their code for dating Water heaters with Model number or serial number. Here’s what they sent:
"The following is a list of the starting letter of the serial number, as it applies to the year of manufacture."
G=1990 H=1991 J=1992 K=1993 L=1994
M=1995 N=1996 P=1997 S=1998 T=1999
W=2000 X=2001 Y=2002 Z=2003 A=2004
B=2005 C=2006 D=2007 E=2008 F=2009
G=2010

Those are the same date codes that Bradford-White uses and the same ones US Water Heater uses.
Lochinvar is the brand most often seen used as the large tanks used with solar water heaters. At least that is where I see them.
