The state of Maine currently has no licensing of Home Inspectors.

We will keep a watch for any proposed licensing in this state.

Hi Igor,

I have tried to contact them directly to ask them to post in this string, I know that they quashed a bill before their legislature about 2-3 years ago. I for one would love to hear that story. icon_wink.gif

Hi here is all I can find about the law that was quashed in Maine (this took place in Feb 2000)

L.D. 168 - SP0065

L.D. 168 Meets With Defeat In Maine Legislature
Proposed legislation to license and regulate the home inspection industry in the State of Maine met with defeat last month
when the state?s legislature re-convened took up for consideration legislation that had been submitted from a previous session.
Members of the Maine Coalition of Home Inspection Professionals (MeCHIPS) seem to be in concurrence with the
legislature which defeated the legislative action.. The legislation had been sponsored by individuals outside of the home
inspection community and contained numerous ?holes.? Over the coming months, MeCHIPS is expected to continue to work
on a model of its own for use in crafting future legislative proposals.
ASHI-NE members in Maine with an interest in participating in the legislative efforts of MeCHIPS should contact the
group?s secretary, Michael Hetzel with Up-Country Home Inspectors located in Scarborough, ME at 207/883-9876.

I still hope that MeCHIPS will post here if they are still around.
