Matt Dempsey Florida Legislation Proposal

Jay,

Being a part of…and being in support of…are not one in the same.

Being a member at the table gives you firsthand knowledge and access to information that would not be readily obtainable, otherwise. It is certainly better to be present, than absent, when people are meeting to discuss what will be presented to your legislature.

But when those people vote to push measures that are objectionable…it is not necessarily your job to convince members that they should support something that they do not want, is it? Informing them is one thing. Supporting a measure that the majority would object to is another.

Is there anyone in Florida NACHI that supports submitting their bodily fluids to the state for analysis as a condition of licensure? If not, is it not ludicrous to propose such a bill?

Jim:

The drug testing is something the legislature will decide.

The entire home inspection legislative matter is something that your legislature will decide, will it not, Jay?

The question is…will they be deciding the requirement for drug testing…with the mistaken impression that home inspectors want it, based upon the bill crafted by a group representing themselves as an HI “coalition”?

Who speaks for the majority of Florida home inspectors (as it appears, thus far) who prefer not to be drug tested to be licensed…if not the “coalition” that supposedly represents them?

Interestingly enough, the “coalition” - by encouraging the legislature to drug test license applicants - is actually pushing inspectors who want legislation (but oppose drug testing) to support the Dempsey Bill.

Jay and Jim

Thank you for your insights

Now lets put some things on the table

These orgs are NOT against it - They might be when they see it - but for right now know one has presented it to the orgs to say yes or no

FABI has no power or respect with anyone - and the other orgs are not much better including NACHI

Even if these orgs are against something – who do they tell and who cares??

Jay

It all comes down to who gets their message to the Reps and makes a point. Let it be Known that Matt does not rep home inspectors (he never did) and does not now – he was fired – anything that comes out of his mouth is not the voice of Florida HIs

If your group puts a counter bill on the table – Then put some names with it not org names because it is not so – It is the same as if I stated that I was the chapter president for the Florida CMI’s and we were in favor of this bill or that

In short it sounds good but it is all smoke and mirrors –

There is no large power person or group out there that we have to worry about – I have just as good as a chance of getting a bill thought that says that all HI’s must have residence in the State of Florida and that they must pass the test written by NACHI to get their license. (Remember that it is free and if we take it in front of someone like a realitor it could be proctored for NOTHING)

Plus an eye test to 20-10 corrected and the ability to lift 75 lbs. The exam must be in Spanish as well as English and the number of inspections must be that you received from the client or your employer equal to Florida min. wage with supporting documentation

Jay

Lets close the loop hole that we all become HPC’s – Home Punching Consultant and buy passing the law

In general both proposes laws are bad so get something on the table that works or get out of the restaurant
