Missing downspout

I surrendered on this hill this week :wink:

I reported on it and got a ton of push back. The builder apparently did a bunch of these in this particular neighborhood. I’ve never seen it before. I think they should have just left the gutters off so as not to concentrate the water.

This is now a third rail for me, i’m not touching it again. No downspouts on a dormer with gutters. I’ll note it in the text, but not call it out specifically.

I have seen what this does to a roof as the guy that put the gutters on my house in NJ did it. After about 3 years the shingles in that area, while old at the time, had become wrecked and I had to re-roof that section. That was about twice the gutter as here, but so it goes.

I typically point these out on new construction inspections, because the shingle manufacturer’s information sheet says, “it won’t invalidate the warranty, but the warranty won’t apply if there is excessive granule loss from concentrated water flow.”

Isn’t that like saying it’s got a lifetime warranty and when it’s worn out, the lifetime is over? lol.
