Rain gutters brand new install, no down spouts?

Did a home inspection yesterday on a 6000 sqft home, new roof and new rain gutters but no downspouts anywhere ? So I went back up on the roof to have another closer look. The rain gutters have horizontal openings that appear to travel through the large overhang soffits and possibly through the wall structure of the house. Could not find anything in the attic or exiting the exterior of the house.

Anyone ever see this before ?

Internal leaders, which I’ve never seen before on residential.

How dose this work ? where dose the water go ? sewer system maybe

No Sir, but looks like there may be some tile installation issues

Google “Hidden Gutter Systems”

Heres one example…

Lotsa interesting stuff out there if you look for it…

What could possibly go wrong? LOL, they can’t install a plainly visible gutter system around here.

Is it wrong if you can’t see it?

Actually, hidden gutter systems have been around since the 1800’s!

Contractors depend on it… “Out of sight, out of mind”… so it must be ok!

Nothing hidden on those gutters, only the downspouts are hidden. Looks like fun to keep clean. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The buried pipe is connected to the storm water sewer system, sometimes to sanitary sewer or sloped out to daylight.

Some municipalities do not allow it to be connected to the sanitary system. Often, there is no underground storm system. These factors as well as cost will dictate the design.

One feature I often see but are often overlooked:

Thanks Brian, good info

In my area a truck rolls around every few years, blowing smoke up the sewer

Anyone with smoke coming out a gutter or drain gets a correction notice.

*These tests involve blowing harmless *
*smoke into parts of the sewer system to find damage, improper connections, and areas where *
*unwanted water may be entering the sewer system. As a result, smoke may be seen coming *
*from roof vents, building foundations, catch-basins, clean-outs, down-spouts, sewer laterals or *
*manhole covers. The smoke will not enter your home or business if it is properly plumbed, *
vented, and the water traps contain water.
