I saw the same story on NPR this am… having read a bit on punch shear in previous news. I take it the logjam of rebar in columns would leave smaller spaces for concrete than optimal, and more vulnerable to concrete not flowing into the nooks and crannies, degradation from rust expansion and the like. How are the vertical and horizontal rebar joined from a column into the floor above? I’d assume welded but apparently just lapped? The talk about bar congestion made me think of my youth in Baltimore.
