Has anyone found mortgage companies to be a viable resource for referrals?

Patrick,

I can say this, they DO give out referrals. In fact, two of my inspections last week were from mortgage companies. The strange thing is that I've never solicited business from either of the two companies ![eusa_think.gif](upload://lNFeGuTetUAtwNVgUSOuUzgrGGK.gif) .

Regardless, I will be sending them "thank you" letters along with brochures and business cards in hopes that they continue with the referrals .

Jeff,

That's odd. How did they get your name?

The reason I posted the question was that whenever I go to visit a realty office there's almost always a mortgage company in the same building. So that got me thinkin'. ![eusa_think.gif](upload://lNFeGuTetUAtwNVgUSOuUzgrGGK.gif)

I’m not really sure how they got my name although I can speculate. I did an inspection for a Professor at USC a few months ago and one of the referrals was from the USC Credit Union icon_wink.gif . The other I have no idea as I’ve never solicited to that particular mortgage company.

We have several lenders that attend our local Realtor Association meetings (of which I am an affiliate member). They generally pick up cards and brochures stating that "people are always asking if we know where to find an inspector."

If you're in an office where there is a lender, give them your marketing material. One inspection can pay for a bunch of brochures and business cards. Always be sure and ask your clients where they got their referral. It shouldn't take too long before you know whether or not it was worth it

Living in a smaller than urban area, I have brochures in all of the mortgage companies (all three). They hand out referrals, and the customers seem to trust the mortgage company more than the Realtors. When customers call they simply book the inspection, whereas they seem to be more likely to shop and ask many questions when referred by Realtors.

All of the above bull---- being said, I usually get two or three a month from them, and have on this Friday. Costs me about 3 or 4 brochures and 10 cards in each office a few times per year.

Try marketing them, remember, if you don't ask, the answer is always no!

Patrick,

When that first big inspection comes in from a lenders referral, take that money and invest it wisely. Dollar for dollar, my NACHI membership has out played ALL of my other marketing. I am averaging more than two inspections a month directly through NACHI. ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)
