I doubt the 15 year olds working the counter knew me or ever learned how to work a grill.
You didn’t give them “the eye” now did out
P.S. Did you have to make change for them?
Ain’t no 15 year olds at 2am… just EXCELLANT BEEFS !!!
Mike’s right… perhaps they know you!
I grew up in Chicago, and these old “original recipe” Mom & Pop’s are dying out quick lately.
On the South Side (just 4 blocks from home) where I spent my teenage years… ain’t NOBODY beats the original “Vito & Nick’s” for pie & beefs !!! and an Old Style or two!!!
Yes many of the best are gone but I still occasionally make my way to Lincoln Park for the “Wiener Circle” where your burger and fries get totally lost in Cheddar and the employees are famous for cracking insults at the customers.
The owner used to be a Second City cast member and started it plus the outside benches are perfect people watching sites as all the pretty girls walk down Clark street.
Don’t think I’ve been there, though sounds familiar. I’ll try and remember for the next time I’m there!
Also try Jimmy’s if you want a great polish.
Check out the web side.

The History of Jimmy’s Red Hots
Jimmy’s Red Hots is a Chicagoland hot dog stand located on Chicago’s West Side. Jimmy’s location would be considered in between Garfield and Humbolt Parks. Located at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Pulaski, Jimmy’s has called this intersection home for over 50 years.
Jimmy’s is family owned and operated still to this day. For over 50 years Jimmy’s has tried its best to keep serving what Chicago knows to be the best Depression hot dogs and polish sausage. We do it our way or no way. What you see is what you get. You get what you pay for. No charge for the entertainment.
Ladies and Gentlemen we only serve all beef products topped with fresh condiments. There is absolutely positively without question NO FREAKING KETCHUP AT JIMMY’S! No means no. It doesn’t mean maybe on the side, in the bottles, or even in packs. Placing that foul condiment on a Chicago Style Depression Dog or Polish is like raping a tradition. So when you come to Jimmy’s remember Ketchup is like rape. NO MEANS NO!
Give us a taste test ours are the best!
I miss hots from my hometown in Rochester, NY. I grew up eating Garbage Plates. All they have here in Atlanta is The Varsity, which is a steamed dog covered in chili sauce. The last time we ate there my wife had to have her gall bladder removed.
OH my!
Heading out for a Gyro right now.
I’m heading out there this Labor Day, I’ll give it a try.
Damn you!!!
I love Gyro’s and didn’t have the chance last time I was there. Where do you recommend, as my old hangout on the SouthSide is gone! Both of them!!
If you could find a Gyro here… they suck!!! Mainly because they use the crap pre-sliced meat (aka… dog food I wouldn’t serve a dog) and nobody makes their own Tzatziki Sauce (with cucumbers) anymore!!!
THERE IS NO BETTER FOOD IN THE WORLD THAN IN CHICAGO !!!
I think I would like Jimmy’s, I don’t do ketchup on dogs…
He he, I just had a girl tell me that the McDonald’s near that place charges for Ketchup packets because of them.
Just finished my delicious Gyro from Twins.http://www.twinsgyros.com/Home_Page.php
Yes they make their own Cumber( Tzatziki Sauce sauce) and it is very good.
I know what you mean about how some areas do not have real Gyros as they use that c-ap you get prepackaged at food stores.
I was shocked first time I saw that and made them take it back.
then again even whole hotdogs are good!
