There is lots more to check in that picture!
Inachi SOP says:
IV. The inspector is not required to:
F. evaluate the fastening of islands, countertops, cabinets, sink tops or fixtures.
Your illustrations should follow your own SOP!
Just look for grease on the hood/vent. Don’t worry about turning it on etc.
Oven anti-tip bracket?
I am not sure this is really helping inspectors, even at a newbie level.
Agreed.
And then there is this (interesting on what is required to be inspected vs what is required to be reported on)
Where’s all the receps?
That sink is a bit undersized, no?
I really hate to be criticizing but some of these images are getting ridiculous. Besides lack of, or improper, information, that one looks like it came out of a grade school book.
OK, I’m lost. I’m not seeing any of this stuff in the image. Where do you see any reference to an anti-tip bracket or running water or receptacles or insulation?
That’s the point! Why are none of these things mentioned in an illustration titled “kitchen inspection”?
That’s because the countertop doesn’t appear any wider than the cabinets above it. Poor proportioning. A quick check of this occurs when you see the vertical upper cabinet edges aligned with the lower cabinets. Upper cabinet edges should end at the countertop which is always wider than the cabinets above. Basic drawing stuff.
I agree, to make these graphics more useful they should reflect the points outlined in the SOP.
A new inspector may look at this image and think this is all that needs to be inspected. It would be nice if the image illustrated the requirements set by the SOP. Come on you can do better than this!
So true, if I asked my 13 year old grandson to give me 4 things to inspect in a kitchen; this illustration would likely be his answer.
Agree.
I would add outlets, outlet placement, GFCI, high-loop for dishwasher discharge, anti-tip on range, loose dishwasher, condition of sink cabinet (mold, damage, pests), backsplash sealed to countertop, note or describe exterior or recirculate venting for hood feature on microwave, and testing the microwave with the handy-dandy InterNACHI branded microwave tester!
Many of the images in the gallery illustrate inspection things not specifically described in our SoP. Several of us are suggesting that this graphic is missing some of the most important inspection items in a kitchen like outlets and GFCI protection. It may take two or more kitchen graphics to more accurately include the many things that we look for in kitchens.
Oh!!! LOL, I thought I was going nuts for second. Yes, the image isn’t describing everything you look for in a kitchen. We’re not going to stuff everything into one image, of course. I’m looking for errors in this image.
Sink should be moved from on top of dishwasher. Yes. We’ll have that fixed.
That is the least of the problems in this image. Let me ask, who is the end user of this graphic? Does it serve them?
It’s part of a section in a course. Yes.
What else do you see? Tell me so I can fix.
