Hello all, yes I am actually a Law Librarian but have recently taken an interest in learning Home Inspections as a part time job for a little extra income. First is that even possible without any construction experience? Secondly, I have a bad back so it would be difficult to inspect attics/crawl spaces, but I understand, thanks to Nick that there is tool I could possibly use for that purpose.
Any information would be helpful. I have excellent writing skills and have the entire State Codes/Laws at my disposal.

Jack,
Not everyone has a trades background. There are some good schools that will help you get the basics. Then be very patient and get plenty of field training from a mentor or work for a company as a trainee. Maybe you can work as a team with another inspector for those hard to reach areas. (Talk to Russel about inspection teams) I wouldn't rely on the tool to see everything.

Jack,
Erol gives you good advice.
In addition, you need a good amount of strength to extend and manipulate the SpectoScope to look at roofs. Probably more than a bad back would tolerate.
I don't routinely use it in attics because I prefer to enter. I also prefer to crawl under houses. There are times when I will go back for the SpectoScope to see something in an attic or crawl that I can't get to. Not often, usually an old house, but it happens.
