New York is Collapsing Already

I’ve been watching news stories on that. I think we should take a move from the Loony Left playbook on this one and declare it’s all Commie Mamdami’s fault! this is what communism gets you. After all isn’t he the Mayor of NYC so anything bad that happens in NYC no matter the reason, cause, or when it happens is Commie Mamdami’s fault.

Interesting fact…the founder of MetroLoft, Nathan Berman, is an outspoken supporter of fellow real estate developer, Donald Trump. The company also leases office space in The Trump Building, an office building owned and operated by The Trump Organization. The developer allegedly opted for cheaper, non-union labor to trim costs on steel installation and structural reinforcements.

Allegedly means not proven. Cheaper non-union labor does not mean not proficient or competant in their specific trade or skill.

Large commercial projects are costly and a savvy developer will manage costs closely. Nothing wrong with that.

Not surprised that a Trump building is falling. 90% of the things he’s involved in fail.

And then also greased building code official’s palms, most likely. No wonder he is a outspoken Trump supporter. I wonder if he also does pool linings?

Pfizer moved its offices to the building in 1961, relocating from another building across the street. Pfizer announced in 2016 it would sell the building and search for a new office space in New York, and in July 2018, the building was jointly purchased by real estate investor David Werner, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Deutsche Bank and the State of Wisconsin Investment Board for a reported $363.5 million. Werner and Metro Loft Management announced in 2024 the building would be converted into an apartment building with 1,500 units, which Manhattan’s then-borough president Mark Levine said would be the largest such conversion in the city’s history. Demolition of the building’s interior began in 2024, and the New York Times reported the project was scheduled to be completed by 2027.

The only guys who think that commercial work in New York City is done by nonunion workers are guys who have never worked construction.

Now watch somehow they’re going to make this about Trump.

Thanks for the Language Arts lesson, Bob, but I used that word for a reason. I’ll wait for the engineers report.

In all fairness that’s the best approach. As of right now no one knows the root cause of the problem. It could be a structural engineering blunder. I’ve worked with the architectural firm (Gensler) who’s involved with this project and they’re well respected in the industry and top notch.

When it comes to cutting corners or hiring unskilled labor and as someone who worked for 37+ years as a union electrician in NYC I can tell you there is a difference between non-union and union. But in all fairness before we lambast the non-union guys let’s actually wait for the facts.

And what is the relevant tie in between Trump and Commie Mandami’s collapsing building?

You missed it the seriously TDS Afflicted already did, look above.

We don’t need to wait for the facts we’ll just use the Loony Left playbook and say it’s all Commie Mandami’s fault!

Mandami has been in office for less than 7 months so anything related to this construction project has nothing to do with him. So I’m not sure why anyone, left or right would bash him for this.

Nothing. But I knew it would get you worked up. As the guy from South Carolinas’s pointed out, the building doesn’t belong to the Mayor Mandami.

The developer and the owners now have to hire a state licensed third party structural engineer to diagnose the failure and the city engineers will also send their own engineers to oversee the work.

The developer apparently has received multiple workplace safety and code violations and thousands of dollars in fines from the City of New York since the project started in 2024. It sounds like the city is doing everything possible to hold the developer accountable.

So did the city approve the drawings for construction? Did the city inspect the construction?

If the answer is yes, than everything has been installed according to the cities satisfaction. The city needs to be held accountable too.

If it was me, I would be looking at the steel mill report along with the certificate of conformance. Was this Chinese steel?

How quick the Loony Left forgets. High inflation and high prices occurred as a result of the Biden administration and the Loony Left policies and yet they constantly blame that on Trump. There are other examples of this where they blame Trump and his administration for actions of previous administrations, actions of others not under the administration’s control, etc. Therefore we take the page from the Loony Left playbook and say Commie Mandami was at fault for the condition and potential collapse of this building.

The left just throws language around like Hunter Biden putting paint on canvas. No finesse.

No, Richard, a definition of a word is not language arts; it is simple vocabulary.

Meier has already conflated union and non-union into skilled and unskilled; a topic the left has been misleading us about for years. No, paying dues and belonging to a group (or party) does not make you skilled or even smart.

After twisting the thread for a few posts both Richard and Meier are willing to wait for the engineering report to determine if union or non-union labor was used (as if that’s important - only to a Democrat). That is after all, the only assertion Richard’s original post made (other than the subtle dig at Trump for having associations with the original developer).

But as Manny so aptly pointed out the engineering report wont matter as much as how it can be twisted by the left to condemn their political rivals. A ploy they don’t recognize despite employing it in constant tedious fashion - much like Hunter Biden’s painting.

I’m in agreement with Meier. The union workers are required to go to 4 to 5 years of school. There’s no way to verify a non-union worker has ever gone to any school. A non-union shop does not require an education. I’ve worked for both shops for many years. I’ve never seen a non-union shop educate their workers for more than one year. This was very rare and an exceptional non-union shop.

This is why union workers have a higher wage package.

A portion of the union dues goes towards the cost of educating the apprentices. The rest of the education is spent with qualified journeymen. They go to school twice a week for 4-5 years. It’s a hell of an education!
