Having been on the DPPC of OAHI/CAHPI and seen how the B.O.D. have taken over control and having seen how they now operate also seen how the DPPC of PHPIC operate now they both are a farce .
They are all smoke and mirrors and seem to care only about their associations and how can they get complete control and make more money for their association.
They all seem to ignore the rules of NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATIONS .
To the whiners out there:
Just remembered another story. Real Estate agent phoned me complaining about the home inspector she used. He worked as a clerk in the Planning Department for the City of London. Thought he knew it all!
First time buyers. He noted poor grading and down spouts not extended. Harped on possible foundation damage to the point he scared the kids out of the deal.
Agent wanted to know what to do. “Why did you hire him”, I asked. “He was cheaper than you.” was the reply.
Now she uses me exclusively.
There will always be someone cheaper than you! Live with it. Licensing will keep the poorer and weaker inspectors on the same level as you.
It is just like tenure gives the poorer school teacher the LICENSE to continue bad teaching.
Unfortunately this happens too often .
Fortunately the untrained home Inspector does not last .
It is sad to see so many newbies who are constantly conned in Canada by those who, do make money from newbies . Both Instructors and associations .
Roy, that is the whole crux of this story. Follow the money. The participants are attempting cover their butts and keep making money by spreading false stories and hopes about the fortunes to be made in home inspecting.
The ones who suffer in this entire scenario are the poor slobs who believe the false stories… Government financing to take the courses only encourages them further and the rewards fall to the teachers.
Not for profit groups who teach are a joke.
Protecting the consumer is only a diversion to further their own agenda.
I have big concerns too many politics and I am better than you attitudes!
This is starting to have a very bad smell .
Too much power / politics etc.
I expect we’ll end up with more of a mess if the associations are involved in this.
None of our existing Canadian associations have shown they have the ability to do things properly .
Seeing who is at the table is frightening frankly.
These are just a couple who Continue to sell to the Newbies .
They are also decision makers and have been for a long time .
Do you think they should be making decisions that might affect all Ontario home inspectors .
Arms length not and they do not follow the rules .
Frankly why don’t you go to the source and ask the question. Why continue to perpetuate lies or the world according to Roy? Perhaps you are afraid to realize why some people say you are a liar. Perhaps you are simply mistaken (my view), but unfortunately you continue to point fingers and slander others that are rarely here and will not participate in your continual bad behaviour.
Claude - how many courses have you taught through ISS in the last several years? Claude’s response - zero, nada, not one.
Perhaps from another POV - how many courses/mini-seminars have I taught? Two and both were offered “free” (no charge) to associations.
Than again on another note - “if I had an association with the claimed 9,000 to 10,000 members, I think I would also offer free education. Afterall, it could easily be subsidized by the membership fees, and the additional support offered through vendors and various products.” But that’s just me.
BTW: You say these are just a couple - how about the other associations that are also alledged to be doing the same?

If the Government is not requesting the meeting then why would anyone push for it. Let it Be and we can all enjoy the work that we do.
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he’s fed.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ***.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won’t be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He’s good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he’s laid.
When he’s gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 60 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
God Bless Canadian Tax
Well come out, man-up and place the blame. Claude you and I know it is not the Government that is pushing for these meetings …
Let’s see if it’s fact or just another ludicrous conspiracy theory. You see the fact is CSA approached NHICC. We have documents on record. Not the other way around as some want to believe.
But regardless the recent CSA project to develop one standard for a universal “standard of practice” has nothing to do with licensing. It will be a more robust standard that will provide a more detailed list of what a home inspector “must do” along with a list of what is beyond the scope of the home inspection.
Do you feel that consumers and the government consumer protection entities want anything less?
My general belief - consumers deserve better because like it or not when the big stories about home inspectors screws ups and claims of negligence become headlines - somebody will sooner or later be held accountable. That should be the common concern of all home inspectors.
Claude is a continual hypocrite, continually condones misinformation from his own camp** (press releases),** which includes Standards Council CAN P9 and** ICE,** and continues to allow his business associate and national spokesman to flaunt the rules of an association they belong to.
Rest assured** CSA made it quite clear** they were not happy with the manner in which NHICC promoted it self serving interests by way of** press releases** that NHICC was the chosen body to partner with CSA. !
Claude has quite a record of double standards! He and his group should be ashamed for continually making up the rules they want to follow and the rules they** ignore!**

Information added .
I am retired from home Inspections and will gain nothing from whatever happens in the future re home inspections .
Too many who are pushing this are** far from arms length** and seem to me to be doing this for their own agenda and profits.
I have been in this industry since 1999 served on many committees with many of this group who I feel are out for themselves only .
The web conference held yesterday was interesting and thankfully the phone lines were muted. I firmly believe that the instigators of this effort will eventually realize they have opened a Pandora’s Box by getting CSA involved.
This is going to come back and bite a lot of people in the *** and those people are going to be the course providers and wanna be leaders.
An old axiom: Be careful what you wish for because it might just come true.
To the whiners: CSA is going to do nothing for you but cause you grief.
P.s. if you want a peek into the future ask your local realtor what is happening to them? Incidentally a number of particpants arrived late, some up to 20 minutes! Rude! It is just as easy to be 5 minutes early as to be 5 minutes late. ( That’s what my mother taught me! )
Be interesting to see if the instigators have little to do with home inspection or even inspector training. Perhaps they are like other jurisdictions looking for one common SOP for consumers. Let’s face it - we are a fractured industry and what is really common when it comes to one simple, clear and concise, STANDARD of PRACTICE for consumers and other people that are party to dealing with home inspectors.
The only conspiracy or malicious person …are those that create such claims about “instigators” and alleged “agendas”. Really many of the posts have caused a false positive paradox.
Perhaps your question should have been directed to CSA yesterday, rather than posted as continued speculation on this forum.
It is my understanding that the government of Alberta (more specifically Service Alberta) approached CSA to start down this path. In BC a similar discussion started between the 4 recognized entities to create a common SOP. The outcome also seemed hung up on 4 entities that could not agree on a common SOP. Hmmm… sound familiar?
My suggestion - quit the speculation and perhaps deal with the facts. Let’s start with this document. You may also want to see how many representatives are from Alberta both from the prior meeting and also the most recent meeting.

You see others can also make false claims and also not get the facts right too!
Just sayin…

False Claims you should be ashamed of yourself .
You of all people have frequently made false claims .
Time for you to turn over a new leaf and try helping all Ontario home Inspectors instead of you and your self appointed group .
My letter to Mr. Torrey was drafted after the meeting and emailed Thursday AM.
