Panel Clearance

Thank you for the diagram, I appreciate the response. It’s just that we never had a problem with accessing the panel. What is the consequence of a violation? Is it a fine or ? Thanks again.

Sounds like your guy 24 years ago missed the elephant in the room. It was an issue then and now.

Yes, I guess he didn’t think it was a problem and we never had trouble accessing the panel. I guess b/c it never posed a problem and was easy to get to without problem, I was hoping to save some money. We will have the electrician make a sketch of what it will look like with another panel and have the current panel locked. We are having other electrical issues upgraded per the tentative buyer’s HI, as well as radon mitigation, roof issues. It is getting costly. And, I thought we maintained our home well. I guess not as well as I thought. $$$

We are here to call it out, no one will fix most of what we call out they just want to get aa check at closing for a few things they say thew want fixed but really want a new big screen tv, move in and go on with life as normal

The NEC requires the working space clearance in the event that someone needs to work within the panel while it’s energized. Having a clear working space is a safety issue and may be a practical issue when someone needs to access the circuit breakers in a emergency to shut them off.

We’ve already established that it’s not code compliant so how important it really is would be up to the buyer to decide.
