Park Model RV - Breaker Hold Down

Does anyone know if Park Model RVs’ would have an exception to the back-fed breaker hold down requirement? Or are they required to follow NEC at all? Had an inspection on one today for the first time.

Note: I do believe the flexible cord service conductors are fine in this application.

Park Model home construction are (should be) regulated by HUD guidelines so I’m not sure what HUD sets forth in their electrical for these type units.

Here is a link that may help… :man_shrugging:

Ryan,

I know you enjoy reading, so look here for information:

Park models are considered Recreational Vehicles. They have their own regulations anf guidelines. Farily new design in the past 20 years or so.

I did a commercial project very recently in NC. A RV, campground, marina compound. There were 4 park model RVs.

Thanks Ray.

From your link, it looks like they have adopted the NEC as a standard.

One of those “Hmmm” thinking moments.

I’ll try to make this short; In 2005-2008 I was a partner doing residential construction and development. We did a 25 acre project that included a lodge with 12 hotel style rooms and a separate parcel of the 25 acres that was set up for 35 or so “Park Model” homes. At the time, they were relatively new in this area for developments. My business partners were builders and took on the task of going through the process of building Park Models. We even formed a separate company to build them. At the time, we had to build them under HUD regulations, have them inspected and stamped prior to them being moved from building facility. At that time, they were treated the same as a mobile and stamped the same way. No questions were ever asked because that was the way we told.

Anyway, we sold, built and set about 15 before the market RE market crashed in 2008, along with the development and business ventures…

Digging deeper, the NEC has 3 sections, 550, 551, and 552 dedicated to Mobile Homes, Parks, RVs’, and Park Trailers. I haven’t found the requirement for a hold down yet, but I’m looking!

Now I’m wondering if this statement in the NEC prohibits back-fed breakers altogether?
