Pillar To Post Inspector Missing Moisture on Basement Studs

A family in the St. John’s area says they’re being stuck with a big bill because of something their home inspector missed, and charge that others in the industry are closing ranks around them.

However, a top official with the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors in Newfoundland and Labrador says it’s not their job to regulate the industry.

Instead, the group says government should have an oversight role — something that the province has yet to take action on.

I realize the date taken. I would expect a helpful response for new inspectors.

It’s old and irrelevant news today.

Instead of posting 9 year old irrelevant news stories, why don’t YOU explain why you posted it, and what YOU think is relevant today!

Is your inference that the government should be regulating home inspectors?
I know there are plenty of HIs (maybe most) who support regulating home inspectors.
Even though I’ve been deeply involved in the last two attempts to create licensing of home inspectors in Colorado, I am not an advocate for regulating us. I got involved to try to have some input in creating common sense regulation. Isn’t it interesting that the update to the article you linked shows that the HI did not miss anything? And in any event, how would regulation make much or any difference not only in that story, but nearly all incidences of mistakes by HIs?
