Plastic ceiling fan box?

For my own piece of mind, I’ve always used the metal pancake boxes for ceiling fans. Like it’s been said, if installed correctly the framing member is actually the supporting structure for a ceiling fan (when using a pancake box).

Just a side note, a pancake box only has 8 cubic inch capacity. A single 14-2 cable needs 6 cubic inches just for the conductors. The added area of the canopy only counts when marked with the cubic inch capacity.
