I have a question for whomever, I was told by another inspector the other day that here in the state of Oklahoma that you have to have bollards in front of the hotwater tank and hvac if they are located in the garage area and not in a closet. Is this true and what are the specs on this if anyone know’s. Thanks in advance for the help.

Don’t know about OK, but here in FL, the appliances must be protected from vehicle damage.

One method of protecting them is to support the at least 6' above the floor.

Another is bollards.

Another is a 24" solid concrete stand.

There are probably more ways too.

if OK is under jurisdiction of the IRC or UBC.

Protection from impact if located in a garage;

IRC 1307.3.1 and UMC 308.0 for the furnace.

IRC 1307.3.1 and UPC 510.3 for the water heater.

As Jerry said, this can be barriers or elevation.

Well, there you go. What better protection could there be?
