I’m one of the six yanks that’s a proponent of the metric system. Though I admit I still convert in my head.

Not trying to stir up anything. Our codes are remarkably similar to yours, even thought the system of measurement is different. I answered all of the QOTD (today’s excluded) with Candaian codes and have been doing quite well.

Curious! How many of you actually measure the windows in the house for correct egress?

I only measure if it looks out of whack

The area where windows become the biggest problem is basement apartments and basement bedrooms. Often the bedrooms in basements are an afterthought. Changing them to meet requirements is a big expense however an inspector that fails to mention the problem has exposed his business to a lot of potential liability. (people trapped in a fire)

Another big problem I often encounter in basement bedrooms are windows that open into window wells. Sometimes the window size and height are ok but the window well fails to meet egress requirements. ie. clearance must be at least 550 mm, (21 3/4 inches), the window, if it opens into the well can't reduce the clearance and the depth of the well must be less than 1000 mm (39 1/4 inches)

The correct answer is “B”. Majority rules again. We better watch it, it might seem like as inspectors we know what we are doing. icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif
