  1. While it’s true that Sherwin-William’s logo says “Cover the Earth” in paint, this should not be taken literally. Here the paint appears to block a vent. Blocked vents can no longer function, leading to potential problems including but not limited to excessive humidity and mold.

  1. Damage from hail, wind, ice damming, pest activity,
    granule loss for shingle roofs and subsequent UV damage.
    Bonus cause: human damage from improper repair or walking

  2. Depends on application. “Cross connection” can also refer to a plumbing condition. It’s also sometimes found in bad knob & tube retrofits.

  1. Painted over or blocked soffit vents reduce attic ventilation. This reduced ventilation can cause conditions which can damage building materials. It is recommended that a qualified contractor remove the paint or clear the paint from the soffit vent or replace the soffit vent.
