Otoliths (ear stones) are found in the head of all fish other than sharks, rays and lampreys.

These pearly white stones are about the size of a pea, and can be found in the fish’s skull just below the rear of the brain. They aren’t attached to the skull, but rather float beneath the brain inside the soft, transparent inner ear canals.

Catch and release, then, eh JR? LOL!

My brother gave us these. They’re from the atlantic cod. Just filling the freezer, Larry! :grinning:

Just your standard Chain Drain. Doubles as an engine hoist in a pinch. Could possibly anchor a small boat or secure wayward children.

Come around the corner in a dark basement at yesterday’s inspection and this thing about gave me a heart attack, lol.

Family heirloom and they have no idea what to do with it. I’d put it my living room window like a Christmas tree so a burglar would have to think twice.

Quite some time ago, when I was building log homes, I had the honor of being chosen to provide log components for the Grand Portage tribal community center. I haven’t stopped in there in decades, and I never saw the completed project while in use. This is a project that I’m very proud of. Complex timber framing in log. No square timbers to measure from. Hip rafter backing angles to calculate. Component lengths and joinery calculated by math and layout. Me and a very good log builder employee spearheaded the calculations and fabrication. I am forever indebted to his skills and enthusiasm. He is the one who fabricated the “bulb” at the top of the hip roof. My whole crew was part of the log project. We fabricated the log components off site, then reassembled the structure during a very cold January week (-20 temperatures, plus colder weather delays). This was a commercial project with a construction schedule. Lake Superior winds were not kind to us either.

Yes, the wild sunflowers done well this year. The big ones in the photo were from a few seeds we had left from a couple years ago.
