Rated door and frame shortened by installer

A door and frame that is being shortened by an installer to fit a lower door opening is still considered rated?
Is it considered compromised and not rated anymore?

What are you referring to when you say rated?

From the image it looks inward swinging front/egress door.

Generally, thresholds should be no higher than 1/2 inch above the finished floor. Not the case by the image.

Exterior egress door, Threshold and frame appear not water tight.

Kalman, I believe the door manufacturer would have the final say on that. My first thought is that altering the door would adversely affect the rating of the door. Product Approvals have very detailed installation requirements, I’ve never seen one with an option for an alteration like this.

Well technically, the insurance form doesn’t ask if an opening protection device has been “compromised”, even if you can substantiate that it has been altered.

That being said, you were there and you observed how it was installed. I’d certainly note a door that has been altered on the general HI report.

I doubt that is actually a hurricane rated door.

But if it was, I wouldnt change the rating on the wind mitigation.

Welcome to the InterNACHI community, Kalman! Hope to find you well and in good spirits today.

Thank you for your reply.
All the best with your endeavors.
