Rebar Expansion Graphic

Attached is a graphic showing water intrusion through a form-tie to the rebar sitting on top that expands due to rust creating expansion forces great enough to split the concrete foundation wall.

Awesome Randy! For me “Expansion Force” is hard to read in red against brown.

I just changed the colors to make it more readable.

Thus, the importance of properly patching the form ties properly before waterproofing or dampproofing. So when you see form ties above grade that are not patched properly, chances are they are not patched properly below grade.
