Roof overhang tolerance

Is there a formula for maximum roof overhang before it needs support?

I’m trying to find some information. Is this commonly refereed to as a “rake overhang”?

No code on that. Just report if it’s sagging or not.

that is a rake eave and it looks supported.

There is no max. b4 it needs support. Depends on the particular construction.

Wouldnt it be considered a cantilever joist? In which case it can not be greater than 1/3 the length of the entire joist.

No. It’s a brace, not a joist.

architecturally known as “eave brackets” or “eaves brackets”

Thanks for the input!

What I would consider in my observations or the roof is shingle overhang.
The shingles must stand proud of the decking by 5/8 of an inch.
Drip-edge flashing and underlay …etc.
I see no 5/8 over hang in the asphalt shingles.

Live loading or Horizontal forces play a roll in weather entering the perimeter of the roof.

JMO.

I hope this helps.
