Today’s inspection revealed a flap of rubber secured to the top of a couple of B-vents. The smaller is for a gas furnace, the larger is for a gas fireplace. Has anyone seen anything like this? It’s a first for me. Thanks, Tony
for that fine home cooked smell ???
That is the oddest thing, lol.
Noise reduction during hail events?
Were there holes in the cap under the rubber?
Hey Ryan,
I couldn’t peek under the rubber. Had to use the drone on this one.
Regarding the hail noise reduction, there were four metal thermostatically controlled vents, six metal static vent covers, and another b-vent that didn’t have the rubber covering, so I don’t think it would be for noise reduction.
Wild guess, but possibly to reduce or deter woodpeckers from “tapping” the top of the vents when trying to establish their territory. They would more than likely “roost” on the taller vents. Woodpeckers’ tapping is pretty common here in the South on metal chimney vents.
You may have nailed it. I have woodpeckers that pound on the side of my steel pole building. Loud as heck!
That right there is a “Pecker Deflector”
I guess that would explain why it’s “rubber”.
