Starting the safe practices course today. If it’s like the other courses so far it should be another good. I continue to learn a lot through these courses and navigating the discussion forum.
Does anyone know if there are different safe practices per state or if these standards apply nationally? I ask because I know there is FED OSHA and CalOSHA where I live and want to make sure I am in compliance and not ignorant of any local criteria.
Did well with this course and moving on to advanced inspection of crawlspaces course
Good question, I’m curious what the answer is as well.
Just finished 94 % , good luck
After going through the Safe practices for For Home Inspectors I found that InterNACHI SOP gives us the minimums and we need to check local requirements as well should they go above the minimum requirements. Thanks, and best of luck with your study!
Just finished the Safety course. Very informative. Pay attention this one is the one that keeps you from getting hurt. good luck
I am looking forward to taking the safety course.
Don’t know about the other two, but OSHA only applies if you have employees.
I know SoP applies across the board but some states extend past it. For example some clients kind of expect you to check the roof first hand but where I work we use an extending camera lense to get the same result to stay safe and compliant.
The ones that have additional practice should be listed however for example I believe most courses mention California and Texas.
I could be mistaken though
Just finished this course, this one felt like a good refresher because I am coming into this from a Firefighting and Arson background.
Hello this is my first day of the course. I am excited to learn more
Welcome to the forum Fernanda!
I’ve gathered that OSHA doesn’t apply to your incorporated business unless you hire employees. That’s why it’s best to contract out the work. OSHA may back you in case of a claim IF you adhere to their guidelines. FED OSHA only applies to workplaces in states with no individual plan like California and Texas.
FED OSHA and CalOSHA don’t apply to independent contractors or you if you’re working alone. However, if you and your contractor work at the same site, the Multi-Employer Worksite Doctrine can be recognized and applied should something happen.
Welcome Autumn! Good reply and response to the question. Looking forward to you participating more here.
“we’re in west virginia, we don’t have no oshas around here, we gotta drive a while to get there” -overheard on a jobsite in huntington in 1997.
This is good to know thanks for sharing
