I am new, so please excuse if this question is elementary.
I can no longer get consistent hot water out of my shower. The best I can hope for is lukewarm. My place is 1 year old and I can hot water other places, sink, etc. I removed the shower faucet to look for problems, i.e. mixing valve, but my search has not yielded any possible solutions to this problem.
I would appreciate any help to this matter,
Thank you in advance,

Hot water on sinks working fine? Most likely the valve is a scald proof valve and needs the dial set back…usally builders make the master bedroom hotter that hallways due to kids use the hall bath…

Robin,
Most likely the problem is with the faucet mechanisim. The inner valve may have gotten plugged or possiblly turned a few degrees out of normal. That is the first place I would start.

How would I check this inner valve? When I looked at it before( I believe), there did not appear to be any way to adjust it. ![icon_redface.gif](upload://f7DX2EWhmUfsDapWaYT3oJHMCj1.gif)

Robin,
Of course not all faucets are the same but the basic principle is the same Below is an example of an older MOEN faucet.
1) Turn off the water
2) Open the valve both to hot and cold to releive any water preasure
3) Plug the drian so that any small parts won't be lost down the drain
4) Pop off the cap

5) Remove the retaining screw and handle
6) Remove the cartridge retaining clip
7) Pull out the cartridge. Be sure not to damage any O-rings and note the orientation of the cartigde. For the most part groves, notches, tabs, etc should either be perfectly vertical or horizontal. If they are not this might be causing the problem your having.
8 ) Examine the cartrigde and clear out any gunk that might be clogging the passageways.
9) To assemble the faucet just reverse the steps you did to remove it.
