Came across solid strand aluminum for a hot water heater yesterday in a new home construction house. 30 amp, 8 gague wire. Is this OK? I thought it was odd using solid strand in new home construction.

Was the house wired with MC AP cables or type NM?
That was my guess too. If it’s MC-AP then it’s fine, that aluminum conductor can just be cut off at the connector.
It was all type NM.

I think that might be a bond wire going to the WH although if #8 the size is incorrect. Did it terminate on the pipe or in the wiring compartment?
Can you post a pic of the top right of the panel above the main breaker?
It was actually for dryer- looking back on my notes
