I haven’t seen any steel siding on home exteriors. Has anyone located steel siding where you live? Bill, Shenandoah Valley VA
Yes, aluminum siding as well. Why? Are you sure it was steel? Did you test it with a magnet?
We have a siding company in Springfield Mo that you installs it daily, it’s good because there are no seams, unless there are very long runs. But they make the panels on site with a machine similar to a gutter machine.
My first house had steel siding. It’s over 50 years old and the original siding is still on it.
Steel siding is more common than you think.
Curious, are you just “assuming” a home with metal siding is steel? A few decades ago it was. Today, aluminum is much more common.
Realtors and the MLS (info provided by the realtors), always generically refer to it as ‘Metal Siding’.
Thanks for the update. Around this area, Vinyl or Hardboard are the mostly used, with an occasional Cedar. Have a great day.
Drive around to different neighborhoods and you will find some areas that steel siding is predominate. You can pretty closely age each neighborhood by the building materials.
Barndominiums are common in rural areas of Florida. They are basically pole barns or metal buildings with steel siding and roofing that are finished out inside for living space. Steel siding is not common, but we still see it mostly on wood frame homes.
