Water alarms are inexpensive and could save a lot of water damage. Some are battery powered and operate much like a battery smoke alarm. I recommend them when there is a condensate pump and especially when it is plugged into a gfci. Works the same for sump pump. Alarm only works when someone is there to hear it but an inexpensive peace of mind.
Personally I like water powered backup pump like the water commander over battery back up units.
For the GFCI haters out there, you can buy a high water alarm that sends you a text message if the sump fails. Not aware of anything that calls an ambulance if if a fault exists with out a GFCI.

Great.
Ohio has an exception for dishwashers, GDOs , and sump pumps.
I do not like to see a sump pump on a GFCI for the same reasons mentioned here. I also recommend to have a battery back up system installed for it if the pump turns on regularly.
