Tappan Heat Pump ?

Our HVAC dealer wants to sell us a 14 SEER 3-ton Tappan heat pump with variable speed fan for about $5700. We didn’t even know that Tappen made heat pumps. Has anyone had any experience with this brand? We’ve looked at Goodman, Trane and Armstrong. Can anyone compare these brands for us with the Tappan?
Thanks for any comments.

Tappan is a Nordyne brand, and is top notch. Tappan is their high end stuff, and Gibson is their builder grade brand. Most of the time you can get the identical unit with the Gibson label for cheaper. There are some features/bells/whistles that you can only get in the Tappan brand (like SEER’s in the 20’s), but for this 14 SEER, I’d ask your HVAC man to requote you for Gibson. He buys them at the same place he gets Tappan. Any Tappan installer is automatically signed to be able to buy Gibson too, but not the other way around.

For comparison’s sake, Goodman and Armstrong are builder grade, and no frills. Trane is such a Cadillac brand, it’s hard to even compare it with anything you’ve mentioned so far. The Tappan you asked about is right smack in the middle of all of them.

Wow, thanks for the excellent information. I’ll talk to the dealer about the Gibson and see what they can do.
I haven’t been able to find any reviews or comparisons that mention Tappan, so this info was very useful.
Thanks again.

I just had a dual fuel system installed.

The heat pump I have is a Rheem. It is also 14 SEER and 2 1/2 ton(yours is 3)

The price for the heat pump was $3650.00
Model RPNL-030JAZ

Make sure your heating/cooling specialist does a load calculation. Building loss and building gain.

He needs to do this to determine the exact size. Not to small not to big.

What part of the country do you live?

One of the benefits of my system is that I have a 93% gas furnace installed.
The thermostat I have is also very complex, but I can set back the heat anytime for any amount of time.

I save the most when the heat pump operates. Depending on the outside temperature.

I have only had the system for about a month and have not yet received any utility bills.
