Is it part of a residential inspection to check if an oven has a temperature sensing bulb or if it is missing?
Thank you for any info!
IMO, Hell NO!!
Now, how about the rest of the story?

Thanks Jeffrey!
A real estate agent friend had an inspector write up in his report that the temperature sensing bulb was missing and any other inspector should have noticed this and written it up. He said it was a big oversight of another inspector.
So, I just wanted to make sure that this is not a usual thing we inspect as part of a residential inspection…
What BS ! How could you possibly check all the timers, temperature sensors and other bells and whistles of modern appliances. If you check appliances at all it is only for installation and / or basic function. And you should have a disclaimer that says just that.
Hi Bob,
That is exactly what I thought too! Thanks!
Well they are full of ^^^^. I’d love to see one of this inspectors reports.
Only ON and OFF functions are tested. Performance and timers are beyond the scope of our inspection. There should be a disclaimer in your PIA and report about how, and if, you test kitchen appliances.
Agreed. That is incorrect what the inspector was stating.
Hi Simon,
Yes, that is what I have in my agreement and report. Just confirming that the other inspector was incorrect.
Thanks.
Bet he was an appliance tech in a former life!
These are the types of things that if I were to notice that (it) was “Visibly” missing, it would go into my report…Something like if I notice a sprinkler head is broken off, I will put it in the report, even through outside irrigation is not part of my regular HI. However the missing Temperature Bulb would be hard to pick up on in many cases. My oven simply does not have one you can see…So is it missing?? And no I no longer check to see if the oven heats to 350 F either. To easy to forget and leave the oven on (or wake up at 2 am and wonder about it) I hold onto the door, turn the dial, open the door, check to see that elements are getting warm/hot (with IR), turn the dial off and only then does my hand leave the door of the oven.
