I just got one of the best phone calls I’ve had in 21 years of inspecting. “Hello, I found you on the InterNACHI website and want to schedule an inspection.”
As it turns out it’s the first inspection I’m performing for the company I just opened on Maui so it’s especially sweet.
Over the last 21 years I’ve belonged to two other national HI associations and one in my local area and I don’t ever remember getting a direct call like that. I’ve only been on the Inter-NACHI site for a couple months.
Shoot… so was it bad that he offered to pay for 8 inspections upfront?
Just kidding… I think this is pretty legit. He owns a few rental units and is transferring ownership between partners or an LLC or something like that and wants to get the condition of the unit (probably for negotiating purposes). His phone number, email address and website all checkout with his story and I talked with him at length. My wife and I own a vacation rental here too so we had a lot in common (travel to/front Hawaii is kind of mess with Covid if you haven’t heard).
Maybe I’ll buy everyone a round of internet beers when he pays!
Sounds like it is. I have gotten several referrals through my InterNACHI listing. The one I posted above was actually the first scam one I have gotten.
