Yep, his proposal is to cede the land gained by the invaders, quickly redraw the Ukrainian border, call the war over. No war or dispute over the border, now NATO can accept their application.
And then Putin is stuck. It’s genius if it works out. It’s not so great if it doesn’t. But worth the try I suppose when you are faced with losing western support.
Sure, whatever. I mean whatever land Putin has control of in his sovereign neighbor’s country. If the plan would work, he can have it. As that will be the last land grab he gets. I’m good with that. NATO will make sure he doesn’t move an inch more at that point.
In other words, Ukraine will give him his little bit of land, in exchange for becoming a member of NATO. At least at that point, they know Putin will never take more of their land. At this point, it might be the best they can hope for, since they are likely losing western support real soon.
Where do you get these ideas? Do you think the war will end with Russia giving up its only security requirement? The same security requirement which Putin used to justify the invasion? Do you think we are winning this war? If not, how long will it take?
Relations were strengthened with the signing of the 1997 Charter on a Distinctive Partnership, and further enhanced in 2009 with the Declaration to Complement the Charter, which reaffirmed the decision by NATO Leaders at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Ukraine will become a member of NATO.
At the 2024 Washington Summit, building on decisions taken at the 2022 Madrid Summit and 2023 Vilnius Summit, Allies reaffirmed that Ukraine’s future is in NATO and that they will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership.
Putin didn’t invade Ukraine to keep them from joining NATO, he invaded them because he wants to bring back the USSR from the ashes, and taking back Ukraine is one step in that process, if he succeeds in Ukraine, there will be more sovereign nations that he attacks. Putin was/is a KGB agent who has stated that the demise of the USSR was a tragedy.
Putin’s comments, released by state TV on Sunday, are likely to further fuel speculation about his foreign policy intentions among critics, who accuse him of planning to recreate the Soviet Union and of contemplating an attack on Ukraine, a notion the Kremlin has dismissed as fear-mongering.
Putin’s attack on Ukraine has only made NATO bigger and stronger.
Yeah, but the war must end before that happens. Therefore, lines must be drawn and respected by both sides. Otherwise, we would all be at war.
So, when is this going to happen? The Ukrainian Presidential Grifter/Comedian is already throwing out maximum demands as if he is in a position to negotiate.
Maybe we can see if I am right in the end.
The idea that Russia cannot hold its current aggression towards Ukraine for a decade or more is naive. It can hold the land and continue to terrorize the infrastructure of Ukraine indefinitely.
I suspect Trump will apply maximum pressure toward escalation in order to de-escalate later. General Kellogg, for example, is extremely hawkish on Ukraine and will spearhead this campaign. I do not agree with this tactic but it is my best guess.
In the end, the war will end but NATO will be off the table. Ukraine will lose land as well.
